India is one of the rising economies of this century, achieving growth rates in excess of 8% in the past five years.  In the midst of a construction boom in all sectors and competing against Western economies in all industrial areas, India is turning the corner from its socialist past to embrace capitalist principles in order to create wealth for its citizens.  Hailed as the largest democracy in the world, India is third in terms of GDP after the US and China and is slated to be the most populous country by 2030.  The convergence of these factors makes India one of the most exciting and potentially profitable economies in which to invest.  However, yield remains high with transparency being a risk, and alpha, factor.  Infrastructure development has been highly prioritized by the federal and state governments, but at the rate that economy is growing, development continues to require capital injections unmet by public funding.  The high proportion of rural/urban residency and illiteracy is also a daunting challenge that must be taken into account. As a historical trade route between Asia and Europe, this region has re-emerged towards the end of the last millennium and the beginning of this one as a major trade center and one of the strongest proponents for a global economy.  Dubai has taken the lead in creating the image and reality of what the Gulf Region can be, given sagacious governance, ample capital, a business-friendly environment, a liberal social policy, and far-sighted fiscal spending on infrastructure.  From the Dubai Duty Free Zone to the Dubai International Financial Centre, the city has extended its hospitality and tax incentives to all sectors.  In its wake, other Gulf Region cities have followed suit – expect this region to grow with its flushed capital supply and forward-looking leaders.

 

Johnson Capital International builds on the extensive network and expertise we have garnered in India to expand the breadth and depth of our opportunities in the Gulf Region, and in particular, Dubai.
